What is an Innovator in Residence?
If you are someone who is curious about people and likes to go from inspiration to impact quickly, then you are an innovator!
Community Innovators In Residence, or CHIR or just Innovators are people who live in DC's Wards 7 and 8 and have a passion for improving health and wellbeing. They are also collaborative, imaginative, optimistic and driven to make an improvement in their community. If this sounds like you, then you are probably someone who should apply.
What will Innovators Do?
Innovators will work closely with Sibley's Innovation Hub. They will get exclusive hands on training in human-centered design methods. In a multi-day intensive program, Innovators will learn the same methods used by some of the most innovative companies in the world. Human-centered design is a process where end users (people who interact with a process or system) are valued for their experience and expertise. What we learn from users helps re-define the challenge and a challenge is something we can get creative about. That creativity turns into action quickly. Innovators will get to make to think where we build prototypes quickly using tools as simple as paper and as modern as 3D printers to bring ideas to life quickly.
In the Sibley Innovation Hub they call the process Listen, Imagine, Do!
Innovators will take what they learn and work with the Sibley Innovation Hub to apply Listen Imagine Do to real challenges in Wards 7 and 8.
Who can Apply?
Anyone who is a resident of DC's Wards 7 or 8 may apply.
The application is also open to nonprofit organizations serving Wards 7 and 8 with operating revenues under $2 million a year.
Individuals may apply although teams of up to four are strongly encouraged.
